When I first got my camera all I could think about was getting a bigger lens to shoot pictures of my son playing soccer. My little Nikon D3100 can only handle so much lens and my son is a senior so is my need for a longer lens is waning. I would now like to focus on the small. I would like a macro lens. Sitting with a small object and working to get the right angel and lighting is fun. I want to capture detail. The second lens I am interested in obtaining is a 35mm f/1.8 lens so I can take some more low light pictures.<br />
<br />
<b>5-2 Red Eye</b><br />
I had a lot of issues trying to get red-eye or pet eye.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Being that I took a picture of a black and white item (I wanted high contrast) I think my focus in regards to shades of gray should be the keys. They are not stark white. If you look at the light hitting the keys to the right you can see brighter areas. Also, The reflection in the piano has details where gray needs to be attended too. Yes, that is a second piano in my living room. </div>

<b>4-4 High Contrast</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The first two pictures show high contrast and evening it out so all is visible. I have added the third picture because it frames the focal point but you can still see texture in the tunnel walls enhancing the composition. Plus it makes the for a more pleasing picture not seeing the patch jobs on the tunnel.</div>

I chose <a href="http://www.picmonkey.com/">PicMonkey</a> and Google Drive.<br />
<br />
As a Google Drive, formerly Google Docs, user I figured I could just tell about how my family has used Drive to plan many events from graduation parties, to trips, to college scheduling. We also have a little thing for spreadsheets. We use them for everything. This morning I downloaded Drive onto my iPad so I could work on an assignment that I had started on Drive on my laptop. It is wonderful! I am able to pull up my documents to work on them anywhere. Sharing on Drive is very easy and you can set a document to allow people to just view it or to edit it. Recently Drive added add-ons. You can now get Avery Label manager, Lucid Chart, and VerbTab Music Notation, just to name a few.<br />
<br />
I have always enjoyed playing around with picture editing software. I don't like to spend a lot on it, I just want something to fix blemishes and red-eye. PicMonkey does that and more. I was able to brighten up some pictures, use some special effects, even add fangs to some of my families photos. Something I have never used before was make-up effects. The blush effect was nice, but adding lipstick is going to take some practice. My pictures looked like a toddler on espresso applied my lipstick. The collage feature is fun and easy to use as well. But there is so much more! If you want to design a cover photo for your Facebook page, there is a tool to do that! No more stretching photos odd ways. This app does it for you.Bechttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02723934388786541314noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7035076985575523288.post-50348616354189804462014-03-27T17:31:00.001-07:002014-03-27T17:31:31.823-07:00Week 12: Web sitesI have created a teacher site for a class. On my evaluation I was given low marks for the structure of the PLC I belong to. None of us have been trained formally or informally, so our principal is taking us under her wing and guiding us through the process. We were given homework and posed the following questions in preparation for our upcoming professional development. In my map I have the guiding questions and our teams response.

business and industry, instructional Design/Technology has had to be more aware
of the changing social culture factors that prevail in our country. Like business,
care should be taken when designing technology in education that will not
offend groups of people, but also to try to incorporate things that will make
people from different cultures feel more at ease. In education idea of culture
must be expanded to include poverty. Just as an environmental analysis may be
done to remove cultural elements and localize the instruction, students deserve
the same consideration in order to more accurately assess a given task. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

in with the data driven systems that are in place in education these days. </span><o:p></o:p></div>

As I read Chapter 14, the Development and Evolution of Human
Performance Improvement, I sometimes found myself thinking about my students in
this role and other times I thought about me and my colleagues. I recently sat
in on a data conference with my school principal to go over my students’ many
test scores as their success is a component of my evaluation process. I don’t
know how I feel about this whole process. I know some teachers who have been
skating by for a long time. But for the most part, the teachers I know are
professionals who care about their craft. I frequently hear, “Teaching is an
art! How do you evaluate that? How can business models be used as tools for
evaluation?” Whether we like it or not evaluations are in place and we have no
say in the matter.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
In looking at figure 14.2 something jumped out at me. This
same something has been bugging me for the past couple of weeks. Our evaluation
is missing an incentive to do better in our job. What upper management sees as
an incentive is the sheer fact that we get to keep our job. I feel like some
hire-ups took this Human Performance Theory and cut out the parts that did not
work for them. I think if schools are going to use business models then they
should look at the whole model. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

<div class="MsoNormal">
It is not my intent to start spouting off about not making
enough money, but knowing you are appreciated by your superiors goes a long way
to foster a community based on respect. I think more school systems should look
at adopting a full HPT plan. However, I do not believe it should be on the
backs of students in the form of merit pay. There has to be ways to show
teachers they are respected, valued, and encouraged to remain an active learner
for the sake of our students. <o:p></o:p></div>

possible reasons why the project had very little effect on the instructional
practices employed by the teachers. Each of the factors mention in this chapter
as to why earlier forms of instructional media ( i.e films, radio, television)
had very limited effects on instructional practices.<o:p></o:p></span></strong></div>

sure all of the people involved in the execution of the new practice are willing,
equipped, and able to go along with the new idea. Teachers, whom typically end
up being the front men for the new idea, are not always invested in ensuring a
favorable outcome. Another factor may be the prevailing attitude of, “if it isn’t
broke, don’t fix it.” Change is difficult for many people. I am always very
impressed when I see a seasoned teacher light up at something new and
innovative. This is not a common attitude. Furthermore, when teachers feel like
they are forced to try something which is out of their comfort zone or requires
additional. Teaching is an art. No artist likes to be dictated to n how to
handle their medium. <o:p></o:p></span></strong></div>

helpful.<o:p></o:p></span></strong></div>

<strong><span style="font-family: "Calibri","sans-serif"; font-size: 16.0pt; font-weight: normal; line-height: 115%; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-font-weight: bold; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin;">First and foremost I think that
getting teachers on board early in the process of researching a new system is
important. Many teachers feel they are only called in after things have already
been decided, their opinions being only a taken into consideration for show. By
having teachers represented early on in the process shows a measure of good
faith and allows for meaningful input from those who will be on the front end
of implementing the new process. <o:p></o:p></span></strong></div>

<strong><span style="font-family: "Calibri","sans-serif"; font-size: 16.0pt; font-weight: normal; line-height: 115%; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-font-weight: bold; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin;">Secondly, proper training of all
who will be using the new system offers more support. Many times a trickle down
method is used in training. A few people IT and some administrators get
trained, then, to save money they distribute the information to other staff.
Eventually, newcomers are left to fend for themselves. Yes, I am living it
right now! <o:p></o:p></span></strong></div>

<strong><span style="font-family: "Calibri","sans-serif"; font-size: 16.0pt; font-weight: normal; line-height: 115%; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-font-weight: bold; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin;">Getting all the stakeholders
invested early and proper training can go a long way towards building confidence
in any new system. <o:p></o:p></span></strong></div>

The use of social bookmarking can be very beneficial in an
educational setting. When <a href="https://delicious.com/becschn">Delicious</a> first came out, I was so excited. I loved
being able to have my bookmarks where ever I was at the time. When I signed up
for a new account for this class I was curious to see if it had changed at all.
It is pretty much the same. I have used other social bookmark sites but my
favorite right now is <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/becschneider/">Pinterest</a>. I like being able to categorize my “pins” into
useful subject areas. Another feature is the ability to invite other people to
pin to a common board. Visually, Pinterest is very appealing. The little
picture allows a snapshot of what you are linking. The secret board is another
fun feature. It does not have to be something salacious that you don’t want
others to see. When I found out that I would be teaching second grade before it
was announced, I had a secret board where I began planning for my classroom.
Another time I used a secret board to help plan a party. Sometimes I have
people send me pins. But the best feature is seeing what the people I follow
pin. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
What is important is finding a social bookmarking tool that
works best for you. The ability to organize, share, and explore sites is a
great tool. As a teacher I use it to keep new ideas easily accessible. It would
be nice to set one up for me to use and share professionally. I could set up a
parents corner, a kids corner, homework helpers, a place for my co-workers to
share sites…there are many possibilities. <o:p></o:p></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
When I read the phrase “instructional design and technology” in chapter 1 of the text book I felt that this was very appropriate for what I want to do in the
technological realm. Most of the places I have worked there has been a disconnection
between the teachers and the people running the technology in the school. Many
teachers feel that technology is pushed upon them with little training. I
believe a coach is needed to go into the classroom of teachers to see what they
are doing and to then help the teacher to use technology in way that will
enhance what they are already doing. Technology that is forced upon people may
be labeled ineffective when really they were not given proper time to adapt to
it. <o:p></o:p></div>

Even though I have used Wikipedia I did not really understand what a wiki was. Now a lot of things are making more sense to me. I remember listening to a knitting podcast and the host was talking about developing a knitting wiki. Whether that happened or not I do not know but it makes sense that experts in different areas of knitting could share their knowledge in one location, linking to more information.<br />
<br />
As I trudged through the assignment and created <a href="http://becschn.pbworks.com/w/page/73555457/EDT%205410">my own wiki </a> I began thinking about how I could use this in my job. With <a href="http://www.pbis.org/">PBIS </a>being a big buzz in education now, I think me and my colleagues could benefit from having a wiki where we could access and review the different aspects of PBIS.<br />
<br />
In trying to think of ways a second grade student may use a wiki, I began thinking about their upcoming animal reports. We could create a class zoo wiki. The students could work in teams. Each animal could have a page and the students could add to each page. While some of the maneuvering could be challenging for some students, since they would be working as a team all students would be able to contribute in even a small manner of finding pictures and adding them to the page. I began blogging about my daily life 10 years ago. As a
stay-at-home mom I had no idea who would read what I had to say. Somehow I got
a tiny following. When the service I used shutdown, I moved to another, and then
another. I never shared my blog with anybody I knew in real-life. Later I set
up a Blogger account to share with family. If you look in my profile you can take a look at it. Additionally, I have used RSS feeds
to keep track of many different things. Being a knitter I subscribed to many
knitting blogs. While I used Google Reader, I really liked using my iGoogle
home page where I had widgets set up for the blogs I liked to follow. When I
went back to school to finish my BS, I was grateful for my online hobby since
it served me well in my willingness to embrace technology. I resisted using
Feedly to replace Reader for no good reason. Now that I have it, I will load
some more of the blogs and podcasts I used to follow. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Martin Siegel’s reference to the development of e-learning
needing imagination infused is becoming more of a reality. Last semester the
class I took allowed us to use interactive software where the user can have
lessons and also participate in simulations that offered feedback. I found it
very engaging to the point where I wanted to protest one of my answers. Maybe I
am just a simple girl.<o:p></o:p></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
Where blogging fits in Dale’s Cone is only limited by ones
imagination. That being said, I don’t know how I would use it with my second
grade students! Of course it would be a great communication tool for the
parents but directly for my little people, I am not sure. There are so many
other things to use to help them learn. A blog would only serve as a place to
link websites. RSS feeds I think of more as a tool to keep up on things that
change like periodicals. Again, I think it would be lost on my second grade
kids. I guess I need to stretch my imagination. <o:p></o:p></div>
