1. Mistake: Using my dogs as subjects. In trying to take two pictures of the same object my dogs kept leaving their post when my husband walked in carrying the chicken he had just grilled.

2. In trying to convey motion I started out with a super slow shutter speed and intentionally moved. If you look hard you can tell that Lela is a Golden Retriever.

Assignment #2

Have you ever wished you could get a more snug fit in the heel of your running shoe? That last hole at the top is designed to allow you to adjust your laces so you can tighten up your shoe for a more comfortable fit. This pictorial tutorial will show you how to use the runner’s lace for a better fitting heel.

1.) Lace your shoes as you normally would up to the second to the last hole.

2.) Instead of crossing over to the other side of the shoe, make a loop by going through the same hole on the same side as the second to last hole of your shoe.

3) Make another loop on the other side.

4) Next, thread the ends of the laces through the loops you just made on both sides of your shoes.

5) Tighten up your shoes by pulling on the laces to adjust the fit and feel.

6) Once you find a comfortably snug fit, tie your shoes as you normally would.

Here is an up-close look at your handy work.

Now you are ready to hit the pavement with a comfortable fit in your shoe. 

Week 13: Free Apps

My task was to review two free apps. I chose PicMonkey and Google Drive.

As a Google Drive, formerly Google Docs, user I figured I could just tell about how my family has used Drive to plan many events from graduation parties, to trips, to college scheduling. We also have a little thing for spreadsheets. We use them for everything. This morning I downloaded Drive onto my iPad so I could work on an assignment that I had started on Drive on my laptop. It is wonderful! I am able to pull up my documents to work on them anywhere. Sharing on Drive is very easy and you can set a document to allow people to just view it or to edit it. Recently Drive added add-ons. You can now get Avery Label manager, Lucid Chart, and VerbTab Music Notation, just to name a few.

I have always enjoyed playing around with picture editing software. I don't like to spend a lot on it, I just want something to fix blemishes and red-eye. PicMonkey does that and more. I was able to brighten up some pictures, use some special effects, even add fangs to some of my families photos. Something I have never used before was make-up effects. The blush effect was nice, but adding lipstick is going to take some practice. My pictures looked like a toddler on espresso applied my lipstick. The collage feature is fun and easy to use as well. But there is so much more! If you want to design a cover photo for your Facebook page, there is a tool to do that! No more stretching photos odd ways. This app does it for you.

Week 12: Web sites

I have created a teacher site for a class. Welcome to Mrs. Schneider's Super Seconds. This is a non functioning web site as I am not sure if my school district would allow me to have one. I made a second page that should have shown up on the bottom of my main page but I don't see it. Try this link.

Week 11: Concept Maps

Like many k-12 schools, my school district requires that teachers use professional learning communities. On my evaluation I was given low marks for the structure of the PLC I belong to. None of us have been trained formally or informally, so our principal is taking us under her wing and guiding us through the process. We were given homework and posed the following questions in preparation for our upcoming professional development. In my map I have the guiding questions and our teams response.

Week 10: Screencast

My screencast is a tutorial for parents to enroll their child in the Xtra Math program. Some of my parents have struggled with this task and now I have a tool to help them set up their account.

Week 8 Part 2

My second grade class will be studying the history of our town, Battle Creek, Michigan. As a culminating lesson, we will take a tour of the places we studied. The students will have a corresponding coloring book to use as a list to check off as they visit the designated sights.
